As one of the earliest southwestern universities which cultivate undergraduates for healthcare informatization, Chongqing Medical University （CQMU) has begun the recruitment of Information Management and Information Systems (IMIS) undergraduates since 2002 and Medical Information Engineering undergraduates since 2015.
In 2014, in an effort to comply with the national strategy to promote the development of public health services through informatization, College of Medical Informatics was established on the basis of Information Management Department, integrating several subjects such as information management, mathematics, computer science，physics and network technology.
College of Medical Informatics recruites undergraduates (majoring in IMIS and Medical Information Engineering) and postgraduates (majoring in Bio-engineering and Social Medicine & Health Service Management). The employment rate of graduates as well as postgraduates has reached 100% for years.
There are 30 full-time teachers（including 4 professors,8 associate professors and 8 supervisors）and 40 part-time teachers in this college. A zero breakthrough of national social science projects in CQMU is fulfilled.More than 30 scientific research projects on national and provincial level are undertaken, about 20 national textbooks are chiefly or jointly compiled, and 3 national social science projects have been approved in last 3 consecutive years(2013-2015).
College of Medical Informatics has set up six teaching and research sections: Health Information Management and Decision Making, Medical Big Data and Cloud Computing, Intelligent Medical and Internet of Things, Wisdom Medical System, Electronic Medical Records and Health Records and Regional Health and Special Disease Information. Besides, an institute of medical information engineering and application, a collaborative research platform integrating IT, statistics, medical and other specialties, has been developed.
College of Medical Informatics has established several open specialized laboratories including a Digital Hospital Environmental Simulation Laboratory, a Hardware Maintenance Laboratory, an Information Retrieval and Processing Laboratory, a Medical Big Data Analysis Laboratory，an IoT Laboratory and a Multimedia Technology Application Laboratory. The experimental teaching center of health information technology in use which occupies 2000 square meters is the largest health information laboratory nation wide. The laboratory has hardware facilities and systems such as domestic first-class hospital information management system, electronic medical record system and data analysis system with a value more than 5 million RMB. Over 20 professional practice bases have been built among the affiliated hospital of CQMU, local teaching hospitals and enterprises.
College of Medical Informatics has set up the unique healthcare informatization-oriented “Module+Platform” talent training system. Relying on the disciplines offered by such subjects in CQMU as medicine, pharmacy, public health, management, College of Medical Informatics has enhanced the integration of expansion and intersection to cultivate highly-skilled application-oriented and innovative talents majoring in health informatization. The major of Information Management and Information Systems has been authorized for “Innovative Experiment Fields for Talent Cultivation in Chongqing ”since 2010.
