On January 2nd, 2025, Professor DONG Zhifang along with Associate Professor DU Yehong from the Affiliated Children's Hospital of Chongqing Medical University published a research paper entitled “APP lysine 612 lactylation ameliorates amyloid pathology and memory decline in Alzheimer's disease” in the Journal of Clinical Investigation, a leading international journal.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is one of the most common degenerative diseases of the central nervous system, and its pathogenesis is extremely complex and has not yet been fully elucidated. Amyloid processing of APP leading to Aβ deposition is one of the most typical pathologic features in AD. This research focuses on the new post-translational modification of APP proteins, lactylation modification (Lactylation), and investigates its role and potential mechanisms in the pathogenesis of AD.

This research reveals that APP lactation modification may play a crucial role in the pathogenesis of AD, providing new insights into the role of lactation modification in the pathogenesis of AD and laying a scientific foundation for the development of APP-K612la specific agonists for the treatment of AD as well as aging-associated learning-memory disorders.
