Chongqing key Laboratory of Oral Diseases and Biomedical Sciences and Chongqing Municipal Key Laboratory of Oral Biomedical Engineering of Higher  Education are scientific platforms founded by the Stomatological Hospital of Chongqing Medical University. The labs carry out basic and translational/clinical research intending to help people with oral diseases. These platforms have been recognized by the government as Chongqing Key Laboratories.

The Labs have strong strength in science and technology with a multidisciplinary academic team dedicated to basic and clinical research on a long-term basis. There are more than 100 researchers in the laboratory, among whom 30 have senior professional title, 40 have associate senior professional title, 14 are doctoral supervisors, and 31 are supervisors for masters. Moreover, there are 2 Academic and Technical Leaders of Chongqing, 2 Chongqing Talent Innovation Leaders, 2 Chongqing Medical Leaders, 6 Chongqing young and middle-aged medical high-end talents, 1 Specially-Appointed Professor of Bayu Scholar of Chongqing, 2 Chongqing Bayu Scholar Chair Professor, 2 Chongqing Bayu Young Scholars, etc.The laboratory has made remarkable achievements in scientific research, discipline development, talent cultivation, and development of scientific platforms. In the past 5 years (2016-2020), researchers in the labs have received 45 grants from the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), and 95 grants from the Provincial Ministry, with research funds of a total 34.8 million yuan. Moreover, our researchers have published 39 books, 9 invention patents, and 630 articles, among which 316 papers published on SCI journals with the highest impact factor of 24. The laboratory research team has won several scientific and technological awards, including 2 Chongqing Scientific and Technological Progress Awards and 1 Chinese Stomatology Association Medical Society Science and Technology Award, and the first prize of Chongqing Medical Society Medical Science and Technology Award.

Chongqing key Laboratory of Oral Diseases and Biomedical Sciences and Chongqing Municipal Key Laboratory of Oral Biomedical Engineering of Higher  Education have established collaborations with multiple research organizations both domestically and internationally, including the Faculty of Dentistry of the University of Otago, the University of IOWA College of Dentistry and Dental Clinics, Center for biomedical materials and tissue engineering Academy for Advanced interdisciplinary studies (Peking University), and the Tissue Engineering Research and Development Center of the school of Stomatology Fourth Military Medical University.

    3. Important events
1In 2016, Stomatological Hospital of Chongqing Medical University signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the University of Iowa College of Dentistry to establish a comprehensive cooperation relationship in medical care, teaching, and research, and to build a new platform for theoretical and clinical innovation research.

2In 2018, Stomatological Hospital of Chongqing Medical University was approved to grant doctoral degree in dentistry, a first-level discipline. In 2019, the hospital was approved as a national post-doctoral research station in dentistry.

3In 2019, Professor Richard Cannon and Associate Professor Mei Li from the School of Dentistry of the University of Otago were invited to participate in the Chongqing-Dunedin International Collaborative Innovation Symposium on Dentistry held in the Stomatological Hospital. President Ji Ping, the president of the hospital, visited the University of Otago School of Dentistry, and signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the University of Otago, Dunedin, New Zealand, and established a cooperation relationship in medical care, teaching, and scientific research. Prof. Richard Cannon and Prof. Li Mei of Otago University School of Dentistry was appointed Chongqing Bayu Scholar Chair Professor and visiting professor of Chongqing Medical University, respectively.

4From 2012 to 2019, the Stomatological Hospital held "The Comfortable Oral Therapy New Technology and Standardized Management Course" every year. The Painless Treatment Center of the hospital adheres to the concept of providing "comfortable oral medicine", covering all kinds of projects and disciplines of painless and comfortable treatment in contemporary oral clinics, focusing on the promotion and training of comfortable oral medicine. The Stomatological Hospital has constructed one of the largest Oral Painless Treatment Center, with rich techniques and strong influences in China.

5In 2011 and from 2013 to 2019, the Stomatological Hospital held The Annual Meeting of Chongqing Stomatology Association each year, which played a positive role in promoting the development of stomatological technologies and industry in Chongqing. These conferences aimed to promote the academic exchange and the development of dental industry in China, attracting dental clinicians from 28 regions including Chongqing and Sichuan, Guizhou, Zhejiang, Shandong, Yunnan, Hebei etc.

6In 2019, the Stomatological Hospital held The 11th National Conference on Oral Implantology. It is one of the most important academic events for oral implantology in China. The conference attracted more than 100 guest speakers and nearly 5000 colleagues from home and abroad to Chongqing to discuss the latest research findings and clinical progress achieved in the field of oral implantology.
