In March 2020, State Key Laboratory of Ultrasound Engineering in Medicine was officially established, with the approval from Ministry of Science and Technology of the People’s Republic of China and Chongqing Municipal People’s Government. It is the first national key laboratory that established at colleges and universities in Chongqing. At present, We have State Key Laboratory, National Engineering Research Center and College of Biomedical Engineering to realize the integrated management of study, research and application. Our team mainly focuses on state-of-the-art ultrasonic treatment technologies and research fields including strong acoustics and acoustic effects, multimodal image monitoring and intelligent precision treatment, and clinical research on ultrasonic treatment as well as big data. We hope that, with the application of the state-of-the-art scientific and research technologies and the determination to fulfill the needs of national strategies and local economic development, and by carrying out interdisciplinary scientific research and insisting on serving people’s life and health with made-in-China medical equipment, we can help make contribution to the “Healthy China” strategy and keeping our ultrasonic treatment technologies always in the leading position around the world.
For the past 33 years, we have been insisting on original innovation in developing ultrasonic treatment technologies and have created a development mode that integrates study, research, production and application, achieving historical breakthroughs in basic research, technological development, equipment designing and so on. In recent years, our team as the chief unit has undertaken 1 national major instrument special project, 1 national 973 project, 1 national science and technology support program in the "12th Five-Year Plan", 2 national science and technology support program in the "11th Five-Year Plan" , 2 key program from the National Natural Science Foundation of China and 1 Outstanding Youth Project. In total, we have undertaken more than 100 national and local projects, with approved research funding of more than 100 million yuan.. In addition, we have won many national awards, such as the second prize of National Award for Progress in Science and Technology and the second prize of National Award for Technological Invention. Up to today, we have published more than 1500 academic papers on journals at home and abroad, with over 400 SCI papers. We also have published several books such as Uterine Myoma, Principle and Application of Medical Instruments. By the end of 2020, we have developed several ultrasonic equipment, for example the Model JC Focused Ultrasound Tumor Therapeutic System, that gained market access to 41 countries and areas and have been applied in most of the provinces (except Tibet) in China and 28 countries and regions, providing treatment for over 170,000 patients.
In May 2001, facing fierce competition among the United States, the United Kingdom, China and other countries, we managed to hold the first international workshop on the Application of High Intensity Focused Ultrasound in Medicine in the field of ultrasound therapy engineering. Since then, this workshop has become an annual event and has been held in Asia, Europe and America. In October 2009, we held the First International Summit of Noninvasive Ultrasound Treatment in Chongqing; the 1st to 4th Yangtze International Summit of Minimally-Invasive and Noninvasive Medicine from 2013 to 2019; the International Training Workshop on Ultrasound Therapy of Tumors in China, Egypt and South Africa for 8 years from the year of 2012 to 2016 and from 2018 to 2019; the “Dajia” Summer Forum for Ultrasound Therapy in Chongqing for consecutive 13 years, from 2007 to 2019. All those events mark that we have already played a leading role in terms of research on engineering technology and on basic and clinical research in the field of ultrasonic therapy.
