    2026 Chongqing Medical University Application Guide for International Students (Master's & Doctoral Programmes)

    I. Programmes and Supervisors

    For details, please refer to the Chongqing Medical University 2026 Catalogue of Postgraduate Programmes and Supervisors for International Students (Appendix 1).


    II. Mode and Duration

    1. Mode: Full-time

    2. Duration: 3 years from Fall 2026 on average, and a maximum of 6 years


    III. How to Apply

    1. Applicants shall apply and check the admission information through the CQMU International Student Information Management System (https://lxs.cqmu.edu.cn).

    2. Applicants for Chinese Government Scholarship Programmes shall submit applications simultaneously via both the CQMU International Student Information Management System and the "CSC Study in China" website (http://studyinchina.csc.edu.cn/#/login).

    3. No paper documents are required at the application phase. For admitted students, the originals and the copies of the documents are required at the time of registration for verification and archival purposes. Documents uploaded onto the systems during the application phase must be clear, authentic and valid. Applicants are advised to scan the documents using professional equipment, and are responsible for any consequences resulting from unclear or unidentifiable documents.

    4. Application Deadline: Please submit the application before 17:00 pm, May 31, 2026 (GMT+8).


    IV. Eligibility

    1. Status

    Applicants must be citizens of a country other than the People's Republic of China, hold a valid passport or citizenship certificate from their own countries for more than 4 years (inclusive), and have a record of actual residence outside of China for more than 2 years within the recent 4-year period (before April 30 of the year of admission). Note that actual residence outside of China for more than 9 months in a year may be counted as 1 year, based on the dates of the entry and exit stamp on the passport.

    Applicants must be in good physical and mental health, have no record of bad behaviour, and abide by China's laws.

    2. For academic degree programme applicants

    (1) Generally, applicants for master's degree programmes shall be under the age of 35, and applicants for doctoral degree programmes shall be under the age of 40. Applicants should be in good physical and mental health.

    (2) Applicants must have sufficient financial resources to support their studies and living in China.

    (3) Applicants must have graduated from an accredited college/university in their home countries with a good academic record. Applicants who have graduated from Chinese universities must have an excellent academic record, and preference will be given to those who have received scholarships from the Chinese government at the national, provincial, or municipal level.

    (4) Applicants must offer letters of recommendation from at least two scholars who hold the title of associate professor or higher.

    (5) Applicants must be in good academic standing, and provide relevant certificates of good performance at the previous institution as well as a non-criminal record.

    (6) Applicants for a Master's degree must hold a Bachelor's degree, while applicants for a Doctoral degree must hold a Master's degree.

    (7) Language proficiency requirements

    l For English-taught programmes, applicants must meet one of the following requirements: a) Native English speaker; b) Non-native English speakers with a TOEFL score of 85 or higher (inclusive) or an IELTS score of 6 or higher (inclusive), or Duolingo test 105, or with an undergraduate or Master's degree where the medium of instruction was entirely English (proof required). Applicants with an HSK certificate will be given priority under equal conditions.

    l For Chinese-taught programmes, applicants must have a Chinese language proficiency of HSK Level 5 or above.

    3. For professional degree programme applicants

    In addition to the requirements for applying to academic-degree programmes, applicants for professional-degree programmes shall also have a Chinese language proficiency of HSK Level 6 or above.

    4. Scholarship application criteria

    Applicants must meet the application requirements for either an academic-degree programme or a professional-degree programme. Scholarships are intended for outstanding students who need financial support.

    V. Application documents

    1. Passport (a photocopy/scan). At the time of registration, the passport must be valid for no less than 6 months. Otherwise, please renew it on time.

    2. A completed application form (to be filled in the CQMU International Student Information Management System).

    3. A copy of the Foreigner Physical Examination Form completed in English (the original copy shall be kept by the applicant). The form is formulated by the Chinese quarantine authority. The applicant must undergo the required physical examinations as listed in the form. Incomplete records or those without the photo or sealed photo of the applicants, the signature of the attending physician, or the official stamp of the hospital are invalid. The physical examination result is valid for only 6 months.

    4.A non-criminal record. Applicants must provide a non-criminal record officially issued by the local public security with a validity period of at least 6 months.

    5. Proof of bank deposit (which must be no less than the full amount required for the first academic year).

    6. Notarized bachelor's/master's graduation certificate and degree certificate (or pre-graduation certificate for applicants who will graduate before or in July 2026) (a photocopy/scan).

    Transcripts and final dissertation for the undergraduate or postgraduate stage (if there is no final dissertation for the undergraduate stage, a proof is required) (a photocopy/scan). Copies of academic records from the first to last semester during the undergraduate, postgraduate (if any), and doctoral programmes (if any) shall be provided. These transcripts shall be issued and sealed by the attending university's academic affairs office, graduate school, or student management department. They can be in Chinese or English, but must be attached with notarized English translations if they are in foreign languages other than English.

    7. For English-taught programmes: a certificate for TOEFL, IELTS or Duolingo score (a photocopy/scan) or a proof demonstrating the undergraduate and postgraduate courses were taught in English.

    8. For Chinese-taught programmes: a valid certificate and transcript for HSK Level 5 or higher. The HSK Level 5 score is valid for two years (from the date of the examination).

    9. For professional degree programme applicants: a valid certificate and transcript for HSK Level 6. The HSK Level 6 score is valid for two years (from the date of the examination).

    10. Two letters of recommendation (photocopies/scans) from scholars who hold the title of associate professor or higher. The letters shall specify the contact phone number, email, title and position of the referees, to ensure that CQMU can contact them and confirm the contents of the letters.

    11. A study plan of at least 1,000 words written in English (for English-taught programme applicants) or in Chinese (for Chinese-taught programme applicants).

    12. Additional documents: publications, certificates of honour, certificate of qualified practising physician, and other relevant materials (photocopies/scans).

    13. Documents required for scholarship application: Applicants for the Chinese Government Scholarship shall submit a Chinese Government Scholarship Application Form.

    14.Applicants must not conceal their study experience in China. If the applicant is currently studying at a university in China, please upload the relevant supporting documents.


    VI. Admission

    1. Applicants are to be admitted on the basis of competitive selection, i.e. their interview scores, academic performance, colleges/universities attended, accomplishments, etc.

    2. Applicants with a final interview score below 60 (out of 100) will be considered unqualified and will not be admitted.

    3. Applicants who are found to have any of the following problems during the admission process will be considered unqualified and will not be admitted:

    (1) Unqualified for application.

    (2) In a physical condition that disqualifies them from admission.

    (3) In other conditions that disqualify them from admission.

    4. Chongqing Medical University will strictly examine the documents submitted by applicants, preliminary examination, interview, admission and new student registration in accordance with national policies, and will reject those who are unqualified (including those who obtained the application eligibility through forgery, deception, concealment or other fraudulent means, or who applied due to negligence or misunderstanding). Applicants who are found to be in the above situations, no matter how far the process proceeds, will be immediately disqualified from application, interview, admission, or registration, or be expelled.
