    The State Key Laboratory of Ultrasonic Medical Engineering was unveiled today!

    On June 28, the Unveiling Ceremony of the State Key Laboratory of Ultrasound Medical Engineering was held in Conference Room 316 of the Second Teaching Building of Yuanjiagang Campus.

    Attending the Unveiling Ceremony were Xiong Xue, Deputy Mayor of Chongqing Municipal Government, Ling Fan, Deputy Director of the General Office of Chongqing Municipal Government, Xu Hongbin, Director of the Municipal Science and Technology Bureau, Xu Qing, First Class Inspector of the Municipal Science and Technology Bureau, Qin Zhengjie, Deputy Secretary of the Municipal Education Working Committee, Zhou Lin, Deputy Director of the Municipal Health Commission, Liu Yanbing, Secretary of CQMU Communist Party Committee, Huang Ai-Long, President of CQMU, and Wang Zhibiao, Director of the State Key Laboratory of Ultrasound Medical Engineering. Yang Zhu, Vice President of CQMU, presided over the ceremony.

    Xu Qing announced the approval of the State Key Laboratory of Ultrasound Medical Engineering by the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Chongqing Municipal People's Government. Xu also issued the letter of appointment of the laboratory director to Professor Wang Zhibiao.

    Xiong Xue, Xu Hongbin, Liu Yanbing, and Huang Ai-Long jointly unveiled the plaque in warm applause.

    Liu Yanbing delivered a speech on behalf of CQMU, expressing gratitude to the Municipal Party Committee and Chongqing Municipal Government, the Municipal Science and Technology Bureau, the Municipal Education Commission, and the Municipal Health Commission for their care and support for the development of CQMU. Liu briefly reviewed the development history and achievements of CQMU and fully affirmed that the Key Laboratory of Ultrasound Medical Engineering played a vital role ranking in the international frontier, training professional and technical personnel, promoting the development of non-invasive medical disciplines, fostering non-invasive medical equipment industry and safeguarding people's health.

    Liu Yanbing said CQMU would continue to integrate all the resources and strengths for the construction and development of the laboratory, striving to build the laboratory into a world-class micro-non-invasive medical research platform as soon as possible. With the spirit of "Moving to Western Regions," the laboratory is expected to improve its research level and talent training capabilities constantly to meet the industrial and national demands. It aims at supporting the construction of the science and technology innovation center, the Science City of Western China (Chongqing), and the Western Medical Center. The laboratory also promotes the construction of the Chongqing-Chengdu economic circle by protecting people's health and boosting economic and social development in the region.

    Wang Zhibiao introduced the construction course and operation of the laboratory. The laboratory takes the leading international ultrasound treatment technology as the primary approach and focuses on three research directions of strong acoustics and acoustic effects, multi-modal image monitoring and intelligent precision treatment, and ultrasound treatment clinical research and big data. Aiming at the frontiers of science and technology in the world and facing national strategies and local economic and social needs, it has successfully established a micro-non-invasive medical academic and technical platform represented by ultrasound therapy.

    So far, the Haifu® Focused Ultrasound Tumor Treatment System and the Seapostar® Ultrasonic Therapeutic Device for Gynecological Diseases, developed by the laboratory with completely independent intellectual property rights in China, have obtained market access in 38 countries and regions. The technology has been applied in more than 2800 medical institutions in 26 countries and regions, including Churchill Hospital of Oxford University in the United Kingdom and University Hospital of Bonn in Germany. The technology has treated more than 150,000 tumor patients and more than 2 million non-tumor patients.

    Wang Zhibiao said that the State Key Laboratory of Ultrasound Medical Engineering adhered to the development orientation of "Looking at the stars with your feet on the ground." In terms of "feet on the ground," based on 32 years of innovative accumulation and 18 years of cultivation, the laboratory will insist on bringing original ultrasound treatment achievements to China and the rest of the world, thus protecting people's health and promoting economic and social development. Second, the laboratory will develop into an important base for the gathering, training, academic exchanges, and cooperation of high-level talents. As for "looking at the stars," the laboratory will be an innovative platform to tackle major scientific issues in high-energy acoustics and focused ultrasound surgery and continue to lead the basic and applied basic research of ultrasound therapy. This helps the laboratory establish a Chinese (global) program for ultrasound therapy and maintain its leading role in ultrasound therapy in China and the world. The laboratory will continue to rely on the industry-university-research-application collaborative innovation system to drive large-scale science development by large industries. Meanwhile, the laboratory will support the innovation industry cluster through further large-scale scientific research.

    Attending the Unveiling Ceremony were delegates of the Municipal Science and Technology Bureau and relevant departments of CQMU, key members of the State Key Laboratory of Ultrasound Medical Engineering, and media representatives.

    According to reports, the Key Laboratory of Ultrasound Medical Engineering of Chongqing Medical University was approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology in December 2002. It was jointly built by provincial and ministerial departments. It received strong supports from the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Chongqing Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government, and the coordination and promotion of the Municipal Science and Technology Bureau, Municipal Education Commission, Municipal Health Commission, and other departments. After 18 years of cultivation, the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Municipal Government jointly issued the approval of constructing the State Key Laboratory of Ultrasonic Medical Engineering relying on Chongqing Medical University in March 2020.
