On November 18, the Chinese Academy of Sciences announced the list of new academicians for 2021. Professor Yang Zhenglin, a Medical Laboratory major alumnus from the Class of 1984 of Chongqing Medical University, now Dean of Sichuan Provincial People's Hospital, Dean of the School of Medicine of the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China and Director of the Sichuan Provincial Key Laboratory for Human Disease Gene Study, was elected as a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
On hearing the news, Liu Yanbing, Secretary of the Communist Party Committee of Chongqing Medical University, and Huang Ailong, President of CQMU, expressed their sincere congratulations and best wishes to Professor Yang on behalf of the university.
Yang Zhenglin, a Medical Laboratory major alumnus from the Class of 1984 of Chongqing Medical University, is Deputy Secretary of the Communist Party Committee of Sichuan Provincial People's Hospital and Dean of the Hospital, Dean of the School of Medicine of the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, and Director of the Sichuan Provincial Key Laboratory for Human Disease Gene Study. He is now an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. He won the National Science Foundation for Distinguished Young Scholars of China, the Innovation Award of the 8th Tan Jiazhen Life Science Award, the 2021 Wu Jieping Pharmaceutical Innovation Award, and the Second Prize of the 2016 National Science and Technology Progress Award. He was also honored as "National Outstanding Professional and Technical Talent" in October 2021.
To fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, Professor Yang Zhenglin organized a research team and developed four accurate and fast virus detection kits in 2020. The testing kits were applied in medical institutions across China and quickly approved by the US and the EU, making the kits available in over 80 countries.
