Recently, the digital textbook for the "5+3" medical integrated course edited by CQMU has been officially published by the People's Health Publishing House and has been fully put into use in the medical integrated courses of education and teaching at CQMU.

In order to cultivate a new form of higher education, reshape a new path of digital education, and actively promote the development of Digital transformation of medical higher education, in 2021 Chongqing Medical University and the People's Health Publishing House closely collaborated and successfully completed the work of compiling and publishing the first set of digital textbooks for the "5+3" medical integrated curriculum in China. This set of digital textbooks was compiled by Professor Deng Shixiong, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Vice President of CQMU, and Xu Chen, Director of the Institute of Medical Education, as the Deputy Editor in Chief. The Dean’s Office of CQMU took the lead in organizing it, and more than 300 frontline teachers with rich teaching and clinical experience wrote it.

This set of digital teaching textbooks has 12 volumes with about 8.85 million words, respectively are “Human Body Overview” “Molecules and Cells” “Respiratory System Diseases” “Circulation System Diseases” “Digestive System Diseases” “Sports System Diseases” “Reproductive System Diseases” “Urinary System Diseases” “Sensory System Diseases” “Endocrine System Diseases” “Blood and Immune System Diseases” “Nervous System Diseases and Mental Diseases”. In June 2022 it was officially launched on the "Human Health Teaching Assistant Platform", and in September 2022 it was fully put into use in the teaching reform of organ system integration courses at our school.

This set of textbooks adheres to the writing approach of "organ system are the main line, disease is the centre, clinical thinking path is the guide, and they are all integrated with basic clinical teaching". Based on the textbook itself, and fully soliciting the opinions of relevant teachers and students, this set of textbooks holds the teaching outline as the centre, and the cultivation of students' clinical thinking and clinical abilities as the foundation. It emphasizes the introduction and export of typical disease cases, adheres to the combination of medicine and humanities, pays attention to the ideological and political construction of the curriculum, and fully reflects medical ethics education. At the same time, this set of textbooks has adopted the form of a digital textbook publication, breaking the limitations of paper textbooks and adding various media resources such as highly visualised images, videos, and 3D models. It integrates traditional paper content with digital content and internet platforms, achieving an organic integration of information technology and teaching methods, teaching content and teaching management, as well as becoming an encyclopedia for the field of medical education.

Since 2009, CQMU has been following the trend of modern medical education developments and launched a reform of the integrated teaching mode of basic and clinical medicine based on organ systems. After more than ten years of unremitting exploration and practice, we have accomplished the complete reform process from pilot education exploration to comprehensive implementation, marking a significant milestone in the history of education and teaching development. In order to ensure the implementation from pilot to full implementation, in 2016, CQMU collaborated with the People's Health Publishing House to compile and publish the first set of paper textbooks for comprehensive integration of basic and clinical courses in China. More than 50,000 volumes were distributed and used at 8 different universities, and were highly welcomed and well recieved.
