In July 2024, Prof. LI Jingyu and HUANG Guoning from the Reproductive Medicine Center of the Women and Children's Hospital of CQMU (Chongqing Health Center for Women and Children), Prof. WANG Jianyu from Chongqing Medical University, and Prof. GU Qi's team from the Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences co-published the latest research results in the journal ‘Biomaterials’ entitled "Mechanistic insights into zinc oxide nanoparticles induced embryotoxicity via H3K9me3 modulation" .
This research reveals that low-level exposure to ZnONPs can induce early embryonic developmental toxicity by enhancing H3K9me3 modification, thereby inhibiting development and pluripotency genes transcription. Furthermore, the study confirms the early embryonic developmental toxicity of ZnONPs and its molecular mechanisms from the perspective of epigenetic modification, and provides new insights into the study of nanoparticle exposure on human reproductive health.
