In March 2025, the All-China Women's Federation announced the recipients of the 2024 National March 8th Red-Banner Pacesetter, National March 8th Red-Banner Holder, and National March 8th Red-Banner Collective awards, honoring outstanding women for their exceptional contributions across various fields. Professor GAN Xiuni, recipient of the 49th Florence Nightingale Medal, Director of the Department of Nursing, the Second Clinical College of Chongqing Medical University, and Head of the Nursing Discipline at the Second Affiliated Hospital of CQMU, honored with the title of 2024 “National March 8th Red-Banner”. Among the 17 honorees from Chongqing, Prof. GAN Xiuni was the only recipient from the nursing field. On March 6, Mr. LI Mingqing, Vice Secretary of the Chongqing Municipal Party Committee, presented her with the award.

With 43 years of dedication to nursing, Prof. GAN Xiuni has remained committed to frontline clinical care, continuously working to improve the quality of nursing services. She established the "Whole-Person, Whole-Process, Whole-Heart" nursing model and was the first in China to introduce a comprehensive outpatient escort volunteer service. Focusing on critical and emergency care nursing research, she has twice received the Chinese Nursing Association “Science and Technology Award”. In 2023, she was awarded the Florence Nightingale Medal, earning international recognition for her contributions to the global nursing community.
Beyond her clinical and research contributions, she has been instrumental in strengthening nursing education and training. She led the establishment of 10 national specialty nurse training practice bases, 25 municipal specialty nurse training bases in Chongqing, and 5 specialized technical training centers, training nearly 10,000 specialty nurses and promoting the implementation of advanced nursing practice. In recent years, she has undertaken 25 research projects and published over 130 academic papers, further advancing the field of nursing science and practice.
Going forward, Chongqing Medical University remains committed to fostering innovation and growth in nursing discipline, training more highly skilled professionals to enhance patient care and contribute to public health.
