Beibei Hospital of Chongqing Medical University Successfully Performs First Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) in Beibei District to Treat Severe Aortic Stenosis

    Views:

In early 2025, the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine at Beibei Hospital of Chongqing Medical University successfully conducted the region’s first Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) procedure on a patient with severe aortic stenosis. This milestone marks a significant advancement in the hospital’s interventional treatment capabilities for structural heart diseases, offering patients in the area a "minimally invasive, rapid recovery" alternative to traditional open-heart surgery. The breakthrough provides new hope for individuals who are ineligible for or at high risk due to age, physical condition, or other health concerns.

Led by Dr. CHEN Guozhu, Vice President of the hospital, and performed collaboratively by Director XU Zhonglin’s cardiovascular team and Deputy Director GUO Wei from the interventional surgery department, the operation achieved excellent postoperative outcomes. The patient recovered smoothly without symptoms such as chest tightness, dyspnea, or syncope, and was discharged shortly after.

This achievement not only fills a gap in the region’s high-difficulty surgeries for structural heart diseases but also expands treatment accessibility for patients facing surgical contraindications or elevated risks.
