On 16 June 2025, the "Summit on Frontier of Life Sciences Co-hosted by Peking University and Chongqing Medical University" was held at Chongqing Medical University. The summit was jointly organised by the Peking-Tsinghua Center for Life Sciences and Chongqing Medical University, focusing on cutting-edge directions in the field of life and health, aiming to promote the deep integration of basic research and clinical practice and to advance inter-university cooperation.
ZHANG Zemin, Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, President of Chongqing Medical University, attended the meeting and delivered a speech, expressing his gratitude to the Chongqing Municipal Education Commission and Center fo Life Sciences for their strong support. He elaborated on the university's development plan in the field of life sciences from the perspective of the mission of medical education, emphasised the importance of inter-university cooperation in tackling medical challenges, and expressed high expectations for the summit, believing that it would lay a solid foundation for inter-university research collaboration.
Professor FANG Fang, Vice President of Peking University, proposed in his speech that the two universities should explore new paradigms in joint talent cultivation, interdisciplinary research, and the construction of technology transfer platforms based on the principle of "complementary advantages and collaborative innovation". He looked forward to using this meeting as a starting point to jointly sign an "academic memorandum of understanding" to contribute university wisdom to the implementation of the "Healthy China 2030" strategy.
Academician TANG Chao, director of the Center for Life Sciences, congratulated the summit via video, expressing his expectation that both sides would establish a regular cooperation mechanism to continuously expand the depth and breadth of collaborative innovation.
The summit was presided over by Professor LI Huabing, Vice President and member of the Party Committee of Chongqing Medical University.
After the speech session, Mr. JIANG Peng, Deputy Director of the Chongqing Municipal Education Commission, presented a plaque to the Institute of Information and Tumour Immunology at Chongqing Medical University. Vice President FANG Fang, Deputy Director JIANG Peng, Secretary QIN Zhengjie, and President ZHANG Zemin jointly participated in the launch ceremony.
During the academic report session, scholars from the Center for Life Sciences and Chongqing Medical University shared the latest research progress in the frontier of life sciences. Breakthroughs achieved by the Center for Life Sciences in basic fields such as brain-inspired intelligent computing and super-resolution subcellular imaging complemented the clinical transformation advantages of Chongqing Medical University, effectively promoting the transformation of the biopharmaceutical industry from "experience-driven" to "intelligence-driven".
In the afternoon, an expert symposium focused on the intersection of basic and clinical medicine, cross-university talent collaboration, integration of industry, academia, research, and medicine, high-level talent recruitment and cultivation, construction of regional medical centers, and international academic cooperation. The symposium reached a consensus on collaborative innovation and outlined a blueprint for inter-university cooperation. After the meeting, participants visited the State Key Laboratory of Ultrasound Engineering in Medicine, a national key laboratory co-built by the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Education.
This summit built an inter-university exchange platform across disciplines and regions, marking the entry of cooperation between the Peking-Tsinghua Center for Life Science and Chongqing Medical University into a substantive advancement phase. The two sides will integrate the basic research strengths of the Center for Life Sciences with the clinical practice experience and resources of Chongqing Medical University to promote original innovation and the implementation of research results in the field of life sciences, jointly building a highland of life science innovation and strongly supporting Chongqing's construction of a national influential centre of scientific and technological innovation.
