Q: What if my passport expires soon?

A: 1) Make sure to get a new passport in your embassy or consulate in China and apply for the new residence permit in Chongqing Exit-Entry Administration Service Center before the previous residence permit expires.

  2) It may take 2 months for the new passport to be ready. Please apply for a new passport 3 months before it expires.


Q: What if my passport was lost or stolen?

A: 1) Report immediately to the local police station where your passport was lost or stolen.

  2) Report to Foreign Affairs Office of CQMU.

  3) Make sure to get a new passport in your country’s embassy or consulate in China and apply for the new residence permit in Chongqing Exit-Entry Administration Service Center within 30 days after the loss report.


Q: What if I find my passport lost? Can I still use it if I have reported loss but found it afterwards?

A: 1) No, you cannot. The passport has been cancelled since you reported the loss to local police station. It is invalid even if you find it later.

  2) Make sure to get a new passport and apply for the new residence permit within 30 days after the loss report.


Q: What if when I want to transfer to the university in another city or discontinue my schooling?

A: Before departure, you must go to Foreign Affairs Office and Chongqing Exit-Entry Administration Service Center to go through the resident permit transfer or revocation formalities.


Q: What shall I do when I finish my study in CQMU?

A: 1) You shall leave China before the residence permit expires.

  2) If you need to stay here longer for official reasons, you must apply for its extension with the approval of Foreign Affairs Office before it expires.

  3) If for personal reasons, you can apply for a L visa (tourist visa) by yourself before the residence permit expires.

  4) After arrival at another city, you must register with the local police station within 10 days.
