In case your residence permit is overdue and you stay in China illegally, you may:
1) be given a warning
2) be imposed with a fine of 500 RMB for each day of your illegal stay with a maximum of 5000 RMB
3) be held in detention for 3 to 10 days
4) be ordered to leave China within a specified period if the case is serious
