RESEARCH INTERESTS

Chen is a researcher dedicated to hematology. Hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) can differentiate into all blood cell lineages and are essential for the continuous replenishment of the hematopoietic system. The homeostasis of HSCs is governed by a complex epigenetic network, and Chen focuses on uncovering critical epigenetic factors (chromatin remodelers) that regulate HSC potential and contribute to dysregulated hematopoiesis. Moreover, gene mutations can transform hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells to leukemia stem cells (LSCs), which cause drug resistance and relapse of leukemia. Chen utilizes the library screening method to find novel and efficient targets for LSC elimination, and explores underlying mechanisms.
