From 26 to 29 August, Faculty Development Workshop on the Second English as Medium of Instruction (EMI)  was held at Chongqing Medical University (CQMU). The Workshop was organized by the China Education Association for International Exchange and jointly hosted by the Office of International Cooperation and Exchanges and the College of Foreign Languages. A total of 27 teachers from 13 colleges across the University took part in the training.

The opening ceremony took place on 26 August on Yuanjiagang Campus. Vice President LIU Enmei attended the ceremony and delivered remarks. She noted that deepening international exchange and nurturing globally competitive medical professionals are not only an essential response to national initiatives but also a core pathway for CQMU to achieve high-quality development under the Double First-Class initiative. She emphasised that English-medium instruction serves as a vital bridge in this process, encouraging participants to engage with dedication, reflection, and a sense of responsibility. Vice President LIU expressed her hope that each participant would become an "EMI seed teacher" within their college, an educator capable of sharing the stories of CQMU and Chinese medicine compellingly in English, thereby inspiring wider progress in the University's internationalisation drive.

During the Workshop, James THOMAS, the course instructor, adopted teaching approaches such as group discussions, scenario simulations, and role plays. His sessions covered core EMI concepts, task-based EMI methodology, Bloom's taxonomy, and the recognition and exploration of academic language. Through these activities, participants gained a comprehensive understanding of EMI teaching principles, improved their pedagogical strategies, and enhanced their English-mediated instructional competence.

The Workshop concluded on 29 August with a closing ceremony, during which participants shared their reflections and insights. They noted that the training had introduced innovative methods for promoting classroom interaction and offered new perspectives for teaching enhancement and pedagogical creativity.

Looking ahead, CQMU will continue to deepen its teaching reform, expand EMI course development, and nurture more high-calibre medical professionals with international competitiveness, scaling new heights under China's national Double First-Class initiative.

Attending the opening ceremony were WANG Yu, Director of the Office of International Cooperation and Exchanges; WEN Bo, Dean of the College of Basic Medicine; LI Jiaying, Dean of the College of Foreign Languages; and ZHU Xiaoying, Senior Programme Manager, Basic Education Cooperation Department, China Education Association for International Exchange. The closing ceremony was attended by LI Xingsheng, Vice President of the CQMU Second Affiliated Hospital; ZHANG Mi, Deputy Director of the Office of International Cooperation and Exchanges; and LI Peisen, Vice Dean of the College of International Education.
