    Expert from the CQMU First Affiliated Hospital Named Clarivate’s Highly Cited Researcher 2025 for the First Time

    On 12 November, Clarivate released the list of Highly Cited Researchers 2025, with Professor XIE Peng from the First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University being selected in recognition of his outstanding academic contributions in interdisciplinary research, marking him as the first scholar from CQMU and its First Affiliated Hospital to receive the honour.

    Globally, a total of 6,868 leading scientists from 60 countries and regions were included in the 2025 list, among whom 1,406 were from the Chinese mainland.

    Updated annually on a rolling 11-year basis, Clarivate’s Highly Cited Researchers list recognises top researchers worldwide who have produced significant and wide-ranging influence in their respective fields. The selected scientists’ publications rank within the top one per cent globally by citations for their fields and publication years, demonstrating exceptional academic impact and research leadership.

    Professor XIE Peng has long been engaged in both basic and clinical research on neurological diseases complicated by affective disorders as well as cerebrovascular diseases. He currently serves as Director of the Key Laboratory for the Diagnosis and Treatment of Functional Brain Diseases under the National Health Commission. He is also Chief Scientist of the national 973 Program (also known as National Basic Research Program), leading figure of the national key discipline of Neurology, and a recipient of the title of Outstanding Young and Middle-aged Expert with Significant Contributions awarded by the National Health Commission.

    Professor XIE has previously served as President of the Neurology Branch of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association for its third and fourth terms. He has also been a member of the sixth and seventh Discipline Appraisal Groups of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council. In addition, he received the Second National Innovation and Excellence Award and was named among Elsevier’s Highly Cited Chinese Researchers in Neuroscience and Basic Medicine for six consecutive years from 2019 to 2024.
