From June 8 to 12, the 2026 “The Belt and Road” Chongqing Orthopedics Training Course (5th Session), hosted by the First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University, officially commenced. Focusing on cutting-edge orthopedic technologies and clinical diagnosis and treatment experience, this session attracted 8 orthopedic surgeons from Uzbekistan to Chongqing for academic study and exchanges.
At the opening ceremony, Dr. He Jianguo, Vice President of the First Affiliated Hospital, briefed the participants on the hospital's development history and achievements in orthopedics discipline construction. This 5-day training course integrated theoretical instruction with clinical practice. Led by Prof.Huang Wei, Director of the Orthopedics Department, the participants visited the operating room for their first live surgical observation, during which Prof. Huang elaborated on innovative orthopedic surgical techniques and standard operating protocols. A panel of experts, including Prof.Huang Wei, Dr. Shui Wei, Dr. Liang Anlin, Dr. Luo Gang and Dr. Li Ke, delivered specialized lectures covering a range of cutting-edge and clinically high-profile topics: the application of 3D printing technology in complex acetabular reconstruction, diagnosis and management of proximal humeral fractures, surgical treatment of calcaneal fractures, and robot-assisted complex total knee arthroplasty and revision surgery.
"The innovative techniques and advanced diagnosis and treatment philosophies of Chinese orthopedic practitioners are extremely beneficial to us," remarked the Uzbek trainees after three consecutive days of on-site surgical observation. During a consultation with Dr. Li Ningdao of the Orthopedics Department, one trainee unexpectedly discovered that the cervical nerve pain he had endured for a decade stemmed from cervical nerve entrapment. He immediately learned relevant diagnosis and treatment methods such as release manipulation, and exclaimed, "The pain has been significantly relieved!"
In recent years, drawing on its strengths in orthopedics, the First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University has hosted four consecutive sessions of the International Clinical Training Program on Minimally Invasive Hip and Knee Arthroplasty under the Belt and Road Initiative. After returning to their home countries, trainees from previous sessions have actively shared and applied the techniques they learned, greatly boosting the capacity of orthopedic medical services in partner countries and regions participating in the Belt and Road Initiative.
