Stomatological Hospital (College of Stomatology)


Stomatological Hospital of Chongqing Medical University (also the College of Stomatology) is a Grade A, Level III stomatological hospital that integrates medical treatment, education and scientific research. It has two branches (in Yuzhong and Yubei Districts, respectively) and three outpatient departments (in Shapingba, University Town and Yubei, respectively). At present, the hospital has 500 chairs for dental treatment and 100 beds, serving 1.11 million patients annually. At present, the hospital has 1,042 staff, among which 913 are professionals in dental medicine.

Stomatology Hospital also acts as the College of Stomatology of Chongqing Medical University. The college was granted by the Ministry of Education to confer bachelor, master and doctoral degree in stomatology. In 2017, the Ministry of Education conducted the fourth discipline evaluation, in which the college got C+. The discipline, Stomatology, has been successively approved as a key discipline in Chongqing under "the 11th Five-Year Plan", "the 12th Five-Year Plan" and "the 13th Five-Year Plan". Its Stomatological Experiment Teaching Center was approved as the National Experiment Teaching Demonstration Center. At the same time, the hospital is also a national clinical drug trial institution, a national clinical trial agency for medical device, and a national postdoctoral research center. The hospital was in the first batch approved by the National Health and Family Planning Commission as a national standardized resident training base.


College of Stomatology now owns 335 full-time teachers, including 25 professors, 55 associate professors, 17 doctoral supervisors (including part-time supervisors), 61 supervisors for masters (including part-time supervisors), and 11 guest professors. At present, the college offers 1 national online open courses, runs 2 national-level virtual simulation experiment teaching projects, and also offers 2 municipal-level high-quality courses for postgraduates.

Stomatology offered by the College of Stomatology is a discipline among the first-rated specialties in China. The college has started recruiting undergraduates since 2000. Up to now, about 900 students had graduated from the college. It began to enroll postgraduates in 2001. So far, the college has cultivated about 400 postgraduate students. 

The hospital has set up Chongqing Key Laboratory of Oral Diseases and Biomedical Sciences, Chongqing Stomatology Clinical Medicine Research Center and Chongqing Municipal Key Laboratory of Oral Biomedical Engineering of Higher Education. The labs are equipped with advanced devices for experiments, with a total area of 4,000 square meters and a value of over 30 million yuan. The labs have established a comprehensive strategic cooperative relationship with the School of Dentistry, University of Iowa, United States, and the School of Medicine, University of Otago, New Zealand. It has invited 12 well-known professors from the United States, France, New Zealand, and other countries as guest professors. At the same time, the hospital has planned more than 16.5 acres for the construction of the Chongqing Oral Health Innovation Center that integrates "production, education and research", dubbed the trinity of stomatology.

From 2016 to 2019, the hospital undertook 292 projects and research topics, including 58 national-level projects and 95 provincial and ministerial-level projects, with total funding of 34.801 million yuan, published 630 research papers, including 316 SCI papers and 112 CSCD core papers, received approval for 9 national invention patents, and published 39 scientific and technological monographs.
