The Second Affiliated Hospital (The Second Clinical College)

The Second Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University, originally known as “Chungking General Hospital” founded in 1892, is a centuries-old hospital with a glorious history spanning three centuries. For about 128 years, the hospital has gradually formed the concept of “Care, Concentration and Innovation”, and become a 3A-level hospital that integrates medical services, teaching, scientific research, disease prevention and health care.  

There are currently two hospital districts, Yuzhong District and Jiangnan District, with more than 3,500 available beds in total. The hospital in Yuzhong District is located at the Jiefangbei Central Business District, No.74 Linjiang Road, Yuzhong District, Chongqing City, covering a building area of 85,000 m2, which is the original site of “Chungking General Hospital”. Jiangnan District is located at No.288 Tianwen Avenue, Nan'an District, Chongqing City, with a building area of 250,000 m2.

Complete and well-equipped, the hospital has 44 clinical departments and medical laboratories, 2 national key disciplines, 5 national key clinical specialties, 1 key discipline of the State Administration of TCM in the “Twelfth Five-Year Plan”, 14 municipal clinical therapy & research centers, and 10 municipal medical quality control centers.

The hospital always pays attention to enhancing talents cultivation, had boasted many renowned experts with profound academic and technical attainments and rich clinical experience, such as “Member of National Hundred, Thousand and Ten Thousand Talent Project”, “National Distinguished Young Scholars”, “Recipient of Special Government Allowance of the State Council”, “Specialized Technical Expert (Grade II)”, “Team Leader of the Changjiang Scholars and Innovative Team Development Plan of the MOE”, “Member of Trans-Century Training Program Foundation for the Talents of the MOE”, “Young and Middle-aged Experts with Outstanding Contributions granted by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security and National Health Commission”, and “National TCM Master”.

Known as the Second Clinical College of Chongqing Medical University, the hospital has 27 teaching and research sections, 9 organ-systems-based curriculum groups, and 20 teaching bases after 40-plus years’ development. Over the years, it has offered more than 30 clinical courses at different levels and specialties such as “5+3” integrated clinical medicine, five-year clinical medicine medical imaging, rehabilitation therapeutics and foreign students, for 10,000 plus credit hours per year, and internship to nearly 1,000 medical students. The hospital also has 3 first-class disciplines and 20 second-class disciplines authorized to grant doctorate degrees; 5 first-class disciplines and 22 second-class disciplines authorized to grant master’s degrees; 55 in-service Ph.D. supervisors and 213 in-service master supervisors. Additionally, with strong scientific research ability, there are 4 provincial/ministerial key laboratories (engineering centers) and 7 bureau-level key laboratories, as well as national center for drug and device clinical trials and stem cell research in the hospital, which also hosts three journals: Journal of Clinical and Translational Hepatology, Chinese Journal of Hepatology and Journal of Clinical Ultrasound Medicine.

As one of the most time-honored hospitals in western China, the hospital will be devoted to facilitating integrated development of “One hospital, Two districts”, and build the hospital in Yuzhong District into a high-level, innovative and featured landmark hospital in the CBD of Chongqing, and that in Jiangnan District into a high-standard, ecological and international hospital, striving to advance to the top of hospitals nationwide!
