College of Biomedical Engineering

College of Biomedical Engineering was established in 2002, based on the Institute of Ultrasonic Engineering in Medicine of Chongqing Medical University (1997). 2002 saw the establishment of the national Key Laboratory Incubation Base of Ultrasound Engineering in Medicine by the Ministry of Science and Technology. In 2003, it was approved as the First-Level Discipline for the Doctoral Degree of Biomedical Engineering. In 2005, it was approved as the National Engineering Research Center of Ultrasound Medicine. In 2012, it was approved as the First-Batch Chongqing Collaborative Innovation Center for Minimally Invasive and Noninvasive Medicine. In 2019, it was approved as the Chongqing Collaborative Innovation Center for Minimally Invasive and Noninvasive Medicine jointly funded by Chongqing and the Ministry of Education of China. In the same year, the five-year Biomedical Engineering Major was approved as the National First-Class Undergraduate Program Construction Site.  In 2020, it was officially approved as the national Key Laboratory of Ultrasound in Medicine and Engineering by the Ministry of Science and Technology.

The College’s key mission is to become a leader in ultrasound treatment technology by focusing on three research fields: strong acoustics and acoustic effects, multi-modal image monitoring and intelligent precision treatment, and clinical research on ultrasound treatment and Big Data. The College has successfully built a minimally invasive and non-invasive medical academic and technical platform represented by ultrasound therapy. It has also formed a complete professional cultivation system for undergraduate, master, doctoral and postdoctoral students in Biomedical Engineering.
