Children's Hospital of Chongqing Medical University is a comprehensive 3A pediatric hospital with medical care, scientific research and teaching. In 2019, it was approved to be the National Child Health and Disease Clinical Research Center. The hospital offers Master and Doctoral education as well as post-doctoral cultivation. It owns National Key Discipline of Pediatrics, key laboratory of Ministry of Education, National First-class Undergraduate Discipline, National Continuing Medical Education Base, National pediatric standardized training demonstration base, National Teaching team, National Excellent Course, National Food and Drug Administration Drug Clinical Trial Institution, the only National Pediatric Standardized Training Demonstration Base in China, and the only qualified children’s hospital for liver transplantation.
For three consecutive years since 2016, the hospital has ranked 3rd among the Honor Roll of Hospitals in China Best Children's Hospital Rating published by Hospital Management Institute, Fudan University. Its research achievements ranked 1st among children's hospitals in China and its Pediatric Surgery and Pediatric Internal Medicine ranked 3rd in the National Children's Hospitals, 2018. It ranked 2nd in the ranking of National Hospital Science and Technology Evaluation Metrics (STEM), Pediatrics, 2018.
The hospital is the deputy director unit of the Chinese Medical Association Pediatrics Branch, deputy editor-in-chief of more than 10 domestic journals,Chinese Journal of Pediatrics,Chinese Journal of Pediatric Surgery, etc. It is the editor-in-chief and co-editor of pediatric textbooks, such as the national planning text book Pediatrics, Child Health Care,Pediatric Surgery, etc.
Moreover, the hospital is the deputy director of the Children's Hospital Management Branch of the Chinese Hospital Association, the National Hospital Logistic Management Association, and the Chinese Nursing Association. We are the chairman of the committee of the Chongqing Medical Association of Pediatric/Pediatric Surgery and the Western Pediatric Development Alliance; the leader of National Public Institution Efficiency, and the exemplary unit of the National Hospital Logistic Management, National 4A Interconnection Hospital, and Chongqing "Smart Hospital". Medical Services
The hospital currently employs 3,968 staff, 46 doctoral supervisors, 302 senior experts, and 15 experts who receive special government allowances. The two campuses, located in Yuzhong and Liangjiang, provided a total of 2,480 registered beds, of which 1,925 are in service. In 2019, the outpatient and emergency visits numbered 3.37 million, and the hospitalizations numbered 95,300. Patients who travel from other provinces to see a doctor account for nearly 40%. It is a certified cardiovascular emergency training center authorized by the American Heart Association (AHA), a Nationwide Network Child Emergency Center, a member of the first batch of "Birth Defect Intervention and Rescue Demonstration Bases", and the congenital heart disease intervention training base of the National Health and Family Planning Commission.
The National Clinical Key Majors: Pediatric Intensive, Pediatric Respiratory, Neonatology, Pediatric Surgery, and Pediatric Clinical Nursing. The hospital offers National first-class treatment techniques in Rare Disease (PID) Treatment, Liver Transplantation, Cord Blood Hematopoietic Stem Cells, Congenital Heart Disease Intervention Treatment, Interventional Lung Treatment, Childhood Epilepsy Surgery, Childhood Epilepsy Surgery, Minimally Invasive Surgery, Minimally Invasive Surgery, Very Low Birthweight Infant Treatment, and High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) Treatment for Children’s Solid Tumor.
Teaching
The hospital is the largest National Pediatrician Training Base. In 2019, the hospital was among the first batches that were approved with National first-class undergraduate discipline. Also, it is the National Continuing Education Base for pediatric training, the Standardized Training Base for Pediatrics Residents, the deputy director of Pediatric Major in Higher Education of the Ministry of Education. Annually we recruit about 400-500 students for undergraduate, master and doctoral education and also several standardized training staff. Over 94% of our students pass the National Medical Licensing Examination each year, 25% higher than the national average rate. And almost all students pass the Residency Training Graduate Examination each year.
Scientific Research
College of Pediatrics became the National Clinical Research Center in 2019 and has been approved as the Key Laboratory by Development and Diseases of the Ministry of Education. The four key dimensions of the Center’s basic and clinical research consists of Nutrition and Development, Infection and Immune, Congenital Malformations Correction Treatment, and Children Chronic Diseases Research and Prevention. The Medical Key Majors are comprised of Pediatric Clinical Immunization, Child Health, Pediatric Respiratory Medicine, Urology, and Neonatology. The team has recruited top scientific research professionals from overseas universities, including one academician from the Royal Academy of Sciences (the University of British Columbia, Canada), and one from the Academy of Health Sciences (UBC, Canada). Our hospital is one of the leading hospitals in promoting pediatric development in China. In 2019, we published 186 SCI papers, and 21 research projects received funding from the National Natural Science Foundation of China.
International Cooperation
The hospital has established long-term and extensive collaborations with more than 10 world-renowned universities and research centers including the Institute of Child Health, University College, London; Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, Cincinnati; KK Women's and Children's Hospital, Singapore; Children's Hospital of Los Angeles, Los Angeles; and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, Ottawa, etc.
Social Welfare
The hospital born social responsibilities initiatively, participated in public welfare activities and applied for funds such as the "Plan for Tomorrow", "Smile Train", "Reborn Action", etc. We established the "Chongqing Hope Project-Little Angel Fund" to provide better medical services to children in poverty. The hospital also assisted Urologists from Barbados and Papua New Guinea in relevant studies.
